For one, McCain was easy on immigration...Hispanics voted for Obama b/c he's a minority. Racist vote.

Second, most Black voters are Prodestant Christian...they voted for an extreme pro-choice candidate b/c he's black. Again, racist votes.

I'd say the Dem party is housing all the racists.

The one thing the Clinton administration did right was to attempt fiscal responsibity. For that, they got my vote - twice. It was in the best interests of the United States to be sound financially.

One does not see the president-elect heading in that direction, in spite of all the Clinton retreads who may be on the way into the cabinet.

So, disaster looms for y'all.

As for the GOP? Assuming that Obama is inaugurated, when he is spreading his hands as he spreads the pain, the GOP will get back some of its power, even though it is largely their fault that the States are in the mess they are in.

That also assumes that the structure of the republic withstands the pressure of an economic/geo-political cataclysm that is on the way. The last time, from 1929-33, it was a near thing. By the time Hoover was running against Roosevelt, there was lots of talk of revolution.

Jindal is hardly the only ethnic Republican of consequence, and he's a hardline social conservative, which is exactly what the party does NOT need in a position of leadership. Leave him down in Louisiana to season for a while and then put him on the 2012 ticket as a VP with Mark Sanford at the head of the ticket.

Haley Barbour is a good manager.

He's had a highly successful run as governor in Mississippi,he's balanced the budget, pushed tort reform, and reformed (and increased funding for) the MS educational system. His leadership in the aftermath of Katrina was outstanding - to the point that MS, which was much worse hit and damaged (but didn't get the press) is much better recovered than New Orleans.

He's a good choice for GOP standard bearer.

I read here a long time ago that Dave said the GOP needs to get rid of the religious right I agree with him 100% but what does that leave the party with and who the hell would want them ..that eliminates Palin and the rest of the race and gay haters in the religious right..

It's always hilarious when Dave accuses someone else of condecension. He is right, however, about Republicans needing no advice from Dems.

They are doing unbelieveably on their own. They certainly do represent God and holiness, they have no nagging economic principles now to hold them back, and they have the wisdom and statesmanship of Lincoln-reincarnate in Palin to guide them.

That combination is sure to quickly win over masses of minority, women, and young voters.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that Heloise was a Republican... or used to be, at any rate.

Some author with the last name of Dougherty came up with the Dougherty Doctrine: "The Republican Party should be more like me; what's wrong with the Republican Party is that it's more like you." That's what most advice to the Republicans is these days. I say, we've got sound and popular principles, an organization, and we can pull 46% with a terrible candidate during two wars and a recession. We'll be ok.

What we don't have, haven't had since 1988, is a leader who can speak. Bush I and II, Palin, Quayle, Dole, McCain - and some of those people actually won! Gingrich was articulate, but lost credibility. Kemp was articulate, except during his VP run.

So be prepared for this: for the next four years, I'm going to repeat the same thing over and over, so get used to seeing it. We need to support our best people and promote them through the ranks. We have the ideas, but we've got a terrible starting team. We need to develop the talent on the bench. Both parties have to. The Dems failed to develop their second string so egregiously that they were left running a newborn for the presidency. It'll be easier for the party in the White House to develop talent (although over the last 16 years, the presidents haven't bothered to), but the Republicans have to put in the effort starting now.

Heloise, would you concede that besides not being old white guys, Jindal and Palin represent some of the Republicans best and brightest talent? Again, disregarding the fact that they're both conservative, and thus disagree with your liberal policy preferences.

As for an ethnic GOP candidate (and I don't consider Jindal properly ethnic), I'm all for it. The problem is that we're a few years away from having a good, qualified selection to choose from. We've been trying to get black governors, senators and congressmen electd and the Democrats have been winning those races, but the field of great ethnic candidates in the GOP is growing. If we can get Michael Williams in as Senator to replace Kay Bailey Hutchison when she runs for governor here in Texas, then we're on our way.

BTW I know more than you think I do about the GOP. I'm from Chicago. The real reason my dad was republican? THey had the jobs to hand out if one delivered their ward for the party..that's what he told us.

I'm learning a lot about racism here. Namely, anything can be a racist term regardless of the context. Cockroaches = racist term. Roach Motel (a term my mother once used to describe a hotel we stayed in when visiting Disneyland in California where black people happen to live) = racist term.

I had no idea that my mother was so racist. I also had no idea that I was so racist, especially that time I said "Hey man, do the right thing" to a white friend of mine.

Jordan, you or I am confounding things. There are black sayings or words blacks use a lot "messy" "a hot mess" they started mickey D's, and yes "do the right thing" and "bling" "hater" or "playa hata" "balla" and "diss" are all from black talk.

But roaches are endemic in the ghetto, and more blacks are ghettoized than whites. That's changing because many of the black projects in Chicago have been razed. And cockaroaches are guess what...black in color.

So, I was mixing apples and oranges in my speak. There are codes for blacks and then there are phrases or idioms that are black. Does that make sense?

Actually, only about half of them are dead. It's a history site. Ken Blackwell, Michael Steele, Michael Williams, Herman Kain, Thomas Sowell, etc. I imagine they'd be shocked to hear they're dead. Hey I don't research my comments, just my articles. And anyway Taiwanese, Japanese, Chinese, Asians in general have no love lost between them and blacks. After the Arabs came into the Ghetto to exploit blacks it was then the Asians turn. Remember orientals? We can't call them that anymore.

Merkin's (whoever she is) argument, which I don't agree with, that there is sexism in MSM towards women candidates. WTF? When you are out and about in the public's eye you will get criticized.
