Comment by Paul Roy on Music Review: Steven Wilson - Insurgentes

Copies of the Insurgentes special edition version have been selling on Ebay for up to ten times the original price, since it sold out so quickly. Steve is pretty upset about it and commented about it on his MySpace page recently. He is debating on whether to release more copies, to take the market away from the Ebay sellers, or to keep his word and maintain the announced limitation.
So America is currently running wild and reaping havoc and has done so for centuries more than anyone else and shouldn't be stopped because it makes them money? So there can't be a switch off where those who have been the polluters slow down their activity and start to develop a green economy and let those who haven't been the culprits develop until they get to the point where they will have the infrastructure to create a green economy? Are you saying that everyone should expand their emissions because it's good for the American economy? Is that your "reasoning"?

What part of that is not dumb?
nice review jordan. i'm totally sold after listening to "No Generation". i also like how "Get Out Alive" starts out so differently from that song...until they bring the sledgehammer.

oh, and the brevity of the record...that's a good thing. i wish more artists would do it.
Comment by Brunelleschi on The Israeli Government Plan to Expel the Owners of the House of Peace – Abraham's Descendants Trample on His Heritage

You don't have to read much of Ruvy's garbage to see why that part of the world can't settle down and get along. There must be no such thing as an Israeli that ever made a mistake or did anything to cause a fuss. Everything just happens to them for no good reason. If you don't think so, just ask an Israeli!

The US has it's own bad history and can't admit mistakes sometimes, but we get past things. At least we let the Indians get back at us by getting rich on casinos. The Israelis just keep running over people like they have a right to and can't see anything wrong with that. They don't know how to think any other way.
"Pictures Of Lily" contains some nice harmonies and a fantasy story about a singer who died in 1929.

I've seen him a number of times, and every time, I do, there's something new that I take away with me. This is a really great interview!
Definitely, NES was far too popular to lose that war though, I have to disagree that the SMS was hard to find. It was available at Toys R Us back in the day. I do believe it may have cost a little more...

That's why I stated, "for us Die-Hards" because the SMS was a formidable system in technical specs as well as games to the NES. BUT, let me state again for the record... NES is legendary and, imo, was the best gaming experience in the history of video games!
Comment by CB on Movie Review: Australia

Perhaps it's not possible to understand the movie unless you're Australian. It is full of in-jokes - almost every character is a caricature of an Australian stereotype. Heroes who turn up just in time, the unlikely crew, a drover called (Oh, God) Drover, the charity do with all the blokes swigging from bottles, the chocolate-box landscape - it's all satire. Even the mystical Grandfather deus ex machina satirizes a very white Australian image of Aborigines.

The audience of Australians I saw this movie with laughed their way through it, and not because it was so bad.
I then found out that Square would not support the Nintendo 64 due to their insistence on cartridges

Yea..Who would have thunk that such a brilliant video game company couldn't foresee the technical advantages of CD-Rom. I was really pissed at Nintendo at the time, though, I freakin loved Star Fox64. In essence, PS1 was supposed to be the CD-Rom drive for Nintendo. Can you imagine what the gaming world would be like if that deal got the green light?
While the NES and SMS were contenders, the way things were back then, I was only vaguely aware of the SMS compared to the dominant advertising and presence of the NES until years later. NES was sold everywhere. SMS was more of a boutique item for the hardcore. You had to look for the SMS; you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting a NES and/or someone who loved it.

Of course, prior to all that, there was a multi-faceted skirmish between the Atari 2600/7800, Colecovision, Intellivision, and others that ruled the roost pre-crash.
Comment by Teddemans on Music Review: Marillion - Happiness Is The Road

@Aros74

Fish is still alive and kicking, his last album "13th Star" is a gem! Far better than "Felinni Days". The album "Field of crows" was certainly an improvement on FD, but as "13th Star" is a concept album, it hints to the Marillion era, though musically it's a bit different.

He performed a couple of weeks ago here in the Netherlands and although his voice begins to give in from all the booze, he is still a first class entertainer.

Don't know if Fish is really fallen off your radar, but here's the url to his official website.

And to stay on topic: Happiness is the Road is one hell of an album! I pre-ordered a year ago and it was well worth the wait. "Trap the Spark" made me cry; it was a long time since a song did that to me...
This was the first major console war and my brother and I would often switch consoles for weeks on end so we could play each other's games.

I'm sorry, but, for us die-hards the first major console war was the NES(8-bit) vs. SEGA Master System. As an avid gamer, how could you have overlooked such an important part of gaming history? Just the game Kid Icarus alone puts the NES in legend status!
Comment by Ruvy on The Israeli Government Plan to Expel the Owners of the House of Peace – Abraham's Descendants Trample on His Heritage

And now, in the aftermath of this evil by the government, some Jews are discovering that when "rendering unto Caesar" goes against the will of G-d, there is a price to be paid. Yassam police, who expelled Jews from their homes yesterday, were expelled in turn from the synagogue in the Cave of the Patriarchs. They are not wanted there.

Late last, night demonstrators from Ma'ale Levona in Samaria and Kokhav haShaHar in Judea blocked the highways and were forcibly removed by police. This was reported by Arutz Sheva.

Finally from David Wilder in Hebron comes these videos of the illegal police action on the worshippers way yesterday.

There will be consequences to this act on many levels, just as there will be consequences for the expulsion of many more Jews from their homes in Gush Qatif.

When future historians write of this era, they will note that YitzHak Rabin, who tried to kill Jews who had jumped off the Altalena in 1948, was himself murdered in turn. Ariel Sharon, who was a bully to Jews in his youth, as well as a bully to them in his old age, now rots like a bad tomato, suspended between life and death.

More similar rewards await the malefactors of yesterday's evil.
Comment by Eve K on TV Review: House, MD - "Let Them Eat Cake"

I also think the conversation with Taub is of utmost importance. I do believe its about Taub giving up the girlfriends. For what? What will House get in return for giving up his current lifestyle? As Barbara so truly put it - not just his sex-life but all of his private life.

Im watching season 2 again and it suddenly hit me - the only time we have actually seen House use a hooker (call girl) was the episode distractions when he was totally depressed because of Stacy. Maybe it was a one time thing?

I have always found the whole hooker thing a little out of character, but willing to accept it as a part of Houses estranged personality. But him using hookers on a regular basis doensnt seem right. I know he symphatise with hookers, but thats just nice. What would be in character is him hiding the fact that he is alone, creating a hooker-using image, as happened when Wilson lived with him. That would have been kind of cute, huh? But I guess that's just wishful thinking...

But in that light he certainly would not go home with the little thespian, being a big old softie.

Anyway, I think that last scene was a test for Cuddy and her trust issues.
Well lots of movie goers and critics loved Depp's singing. For example, the New York Times music critic, who usually reviews opera, really admired his singing.

Depp is always self deprecatory, don't read anything into that. Seems like the more familiar people were with this musical and the degree of difficulty involved in the role, the more they appreciated Depp's singing.
